Today’s Blessing (4.27)

From a random church page.

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_D, King of the universe, Creator of all things for being in all things.

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_d, King of the universe, Creator of all things for being through all things.

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_d, King of the universe, Creator of all things for dwelling in our midst.

(Thoughts from my wife) This was the meditation from Henri Nouwen for Wednesday, April 27:

Two of the disciples of Jesus were on their way to a village called Emmaus… Jesus himself came up and walked by their side; but something prevented them from recognizing him… But while he was with them at table he took bread and said the blessing; …and their eyes were opened and the recognized him. …They said to each other ‘did not our hearts burn within us as he talked to us…?’. (Luke 24)
Nouwen’s commentary on this was remembering the resurrection, and how it affects our daily lives; a good reminder.  But my thoughts immediately went to a different place:
How often does Jesus walk up beside us, and we don’t recognize Him?

The best, most honoring way we can remember the resurrection is to look for Jesus all around us.  See Him and seek Him in the faces of the downtrodden, the weak, the poor, the helpless.  Offer love.  Be a blessing.  Usher in His kingdom by treating every stranger walking beside us on the road as the very image of G_d we are searching for.

Today’s Blessing (4.26)

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_d, King of the universe, Creator of all things for Your breath.

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_d, King of the universe, Creator of all things for Your wind.

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_d, King of the universe, Creator of all things for Your Spirit.

It is with Your breath that You created all things…It was Your wind that rescued Israel at the Red Sea…It is Your Spirit which continues to create and rescue! Blessed are You!

Today’s Blessing (4.25)

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_d, King of the universe, Creator of all things who loves the diversity of His creation.

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_d, King of the universe, Creator of all things who surrounds us with a multitude of thoughts and views.

Blessed are You, O’LORD our G_d, King of the universe, Creator of all things that You are great enough to be the G_d of all things.

In most ancient cultures, the gods were restricted to one or two things – whether it be physical things such as the sea, sky, sun, etc – or less tangible things such as fertility, love, war, etc – they were almost always limited by these different kinds of boundaries. Then came the G_d of Israel (I understand that He always was!); He was held by no boundaries – not limited to the physical or the ethereal…rather He was over, in and through all things!

There is nothing in our creation that is not G_d’s – how awesome is that! I love that G_d paints His creation with the full spectrum of diversity – using every color in the palette – every scent – every piece of sound and touch – They are all G_d’s instruments for creation.

Unfortunately most of us have spent our lives corrupting these things – twisting them from the hands of G_d in order to make them our own…What would this world look like if we were to sit at the feet of the LORD and learn from Him how to live and thrive within the full diversity of His world?

I pray that each of us enters into G_d’s diversity just a bit more today than we did yesterday – that our faith might taste the full spectrum of colors set out for us by the first and greatest Artist.

Be Blessed and Be a Blessing!
